Kinja'd!!!

I want a trailer, but I have a specific need for one that apparently isn’t often accommodated in the world of camper trailers. I want JUST a bed, with an AC on top. No kitchen, no bathroom, no dining area, just an bedroom you can air condition.

My question is, is there a name for this sort of configuration that I’m just not finding in my searches, or am I going to have to custom make a trailer if I want something like this?

If so, any recommendation on type of trailer I should look to refit?

Edit: Looking for a bedroom that fits 2 people.

They make them. They’re not as common as they should be. They’re called “station wagons”.

There are trailers similar to what you describe, though they usually either have a kitchenette or a toilet and shower equipped. The t@b trailer

Teardrops or that style fit the bill. Most have kitchens on the back but you can find a few without it. I’ve been looking into this type of trailer as well and this seems to fit your needs.

A tear drop camper? I’m sure you could find one fitted with AC or add it yourself.

There’s an outfit here in Quebec that makes tiny teardrop trailers that fit your needs: https://www.car-gotrailers.com/  The base model is everything you want, except for the AC, which you can probably spec in or add yourself.

Escapade Campers out of Minnesota! I’ll be ordering one soon. I work on RVs for a living, and these things are far better built than your typical trailer. Great people, great company.

Looks good, but I’m pretty sure I’d freak out in something that small. I’m more envisioning a bed for two (which I should have mentioned).

Probably not suitable if you’re claustrophobic, though.

I’m also 6'7" 355 pounds, so I’d worry about... everything below me.

Get a 6x12 trailer and upfit it to suit. A king size bed is 6' wide, queen 5'. So based on interior dimensions it will give you room for a standard queen with insulation and a reasonable changing area. An A/C can be placed on the top with some dressers, windows are easily fit in, and a generator can fit over the tongue’s Y area. All of which is easily done with basic carpentry tools and will yeild a trailer of a weight of about 1500LBs fully furnished.

we have a 7 x 14 box trailer with ac and a frige and a cabinet, we use to haul stuff and and camp, two suggestions, at least one window and fix ur walk thru door so u can lock on inside and no one can lock u in but still use normally when u want, oh, and take down the paneling and insulate to the max and re panel

Just buy a tent and one of those AC fans.

How much you trying to spend? You can get roof units for under $500.

For $2000 or so, you might be able to build one.

Sounds like an oldschool teardrop with an air conditioner (but those also usually had a fold-out kitchen on one side). My grandfather built his own sometime in the 1950s-1960s. Big enough for the adults, with a tiny bit of interior storage. The children slept in tents outside.

Either a larger tear drop (some of them are definitely bigger than the others, not stand up inside big, but you have some options for a bit more elbow room/less claustrophobia); or just get a cargo trailer and put a bed in it and add a generator to run an a/c unit.

Yup. Box trailer with a RV AC on top. Cut in a window otherwise it’s still a sweaty box.

Yep. There is one. It’s called a cargo trailer. Instead of purchasing an RV travel trailer, purchase one of the smaller utility enclosed cargo trailers in the size you wish, with the type of doors you want, and install an AC unit and your favorite bed. It’s cheap. You could probably do a new everything for under $5,000, maybe even under 3,500 if you shop carefully.   There are a number of examples shown in YouTube videos. And when you need to, remove the bed and haul whatever stuff you need.

This option very much intrigues me. A few others have suggested it, and I’ve been looking at cargo trailers with alot more interest than in the past.
